Press Statement

It has become necessary to make the following statement in view of the news reports that have been circulating lately about the protocol between our Ministry and the Fenerbahçe Sports Club.

On 11.11.2002 a protocol was signed between the Ministry of National Education and the Fenerbahçe Sports Club for the transfer of the land and facilities of the İstanbul Anatolian High School (formerly known as the Kenan Evren Anatolian High School) to the Fenerbahçe Sports Club for the construction of facilities.

As the Fenerbahçe Sports Club could not fulfill its obligations specified in the protocol regarding the school building and its annexes in the required period of time the protocol was revised twice once in 2009 and then in 2011 with additional protocols. The new protocols clearly show the good intentions and goodwill of the Ministry while it also safeguards the interests of the public.

According to these protocols the Fenerbahçe Sports Club was required to build

1)A Primary School in Sancaktepe with 24 class rooms,

2)A Primary School in Üsküdar with 32 class rooms,

3)An Anatolian High School with 40 class rooms in Ataşehir,

4)A sports hall and a conference hall at the garden of the Ataşehir Mevlana Anatolian High School.

However, despite the additional protocols it was observed that the Fenerbahçe Sports Club did not build and transfer the educational units according to the specifications required and in the time span specified in the protocols. In fact not a single step has been taken regarding one of the educational units. The club has made some partial transfers according to the protocol and students have been placed in these facilities.

The construction of the units that have been specified in the original protocol and then in the additional protocols is worth 18 million 480 thousand 200 liras. In return the land that the Ministry has promised to handover to Fenerbahçe Sports Club provided it fulfills its obligations in the protocol is worth 345 million 726 thousand 200 liras.

The Ministry has displayed goodwill to revise the protocol despite the fact that the Fenerbahçe Sports Club has failed to fulfill its obligations in time and without any deficiencies and the Ministry is providing a very serious public financial support to the club in view of the fact that the difference between the cost of the facilities the club will build and the cost of the land offered to the club is huge. Despite this the fact that the statements of the club executives accusing the Ministry and thus misleading the public the Ministry have been forced to put the record straight.

We respectfully bring this to the attention of the public.
